Fertility (Assisted Reproductive Technology)

Overview

Fertility issues are relatively common. Infertility is when a couple cannot get pregnant (conceive) despite having regular unprotected sex. Infertility may happen because of a health issue with either partners or both, or a mix of factors that prevent pregnancy. Our BFC stands as a one stop service centre of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedures which are also called “Test tube babies”.

Features and benefits

Our dedicated team explains about the procedure thoroughly including all pros and cons, cost, how long it will take, what you need to prepare, why you should choose.

Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE)

  • sperm can be extracted from azoospermic male with germinal failure and used successfully for ICSI
  • minimal damage to reproductive organ

Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

  • simple and cost effective method
  • no pain and no anaesthesia needed
  • can be done as outpatient procedure

In vitro fertilisation (IVF)/Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) with embryo culture in time-lapse incubator

  • better success rate than IUI
  • overcome some physical barriers like tubal blockage
  • provides uninterrupted incubation and choosing the best quality embryos by analysing them in real time development
  • improved pregnancy chances

Conditions treated

TESE

  • Absence of sperm in semen (azoospermia) if healthy enough sperm can’t be made or released to fertilise the an egg cell

Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

  • Thick cervical mucus or other cervical conditions that interfere with sperm travel through uterus to fallopian tubes
  • Low sperm counts or other sperm impairments
  • Low sperm counts or other sperm impairments
  • Semen allergy
  • Unexplained infertility

IVF/ICSI

  • Male partner – severe poor sperm quality or no sperm in his normal ejaculate semen sample
  • Female partner – tubal problems such as tubal damage or blocked or sterilisation (tubal ligation or tubal cut)
  • Female diseases and conditions (e.g. endometriosis, uterine fibroid, ovulatory problem)
  • Advanced maternal age
  • Unexplained infertility

Treatment options

After counselling and assessment for understanding the couple’s sexual habits and exploring the conditions influencing fertility, initial investigations like imaging including transvaginal ultrasound, hormonal analysis, semen analysis or other fertility tests are performed. Regarding the conditions discovered, the following treatment options will be used, accordingly.

Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE)

the operative removal of testicular tissue to collect live sperm to use in an IVF-ICSI procedure,
involves making a small incision in the testis and examining the tubules for the presence of live sperm,
sperm can often be extracted from testicular tissue of azoospermic men with germinal failure, and used successfully for ICSI,
either done as a scheduled procedure or is coordinated with the female partner’s ( Wife) egg retrieval

Ovulation Induction and Timed Intercourse ( OI + TI)

For patients with irregular ovulation, whose partner has a normal semen analysis

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

a simple but cost effective way of assisted reproduction technique,
placing of a small volume of prepared high motile sperm in the uterus on the day of ovulation

Invitro Fertilisation (IVF)

a method of assisted reproduction, combining an egg with sperm in a laboratory dish,
the resulting embryo is then transferred into the woman’s womb for implantation in the uterine lining and further development

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

a method of assisted reproduction, used for those with poor sperm quality,
injection of a single sperm into the centre of an egg

Blastocyst transfer

transfer of an embryo, five – six days after fertilisation

Sperm freezing

storing the sperms for future use in artificial insemination or other fertility treatments

Embryo Freezing & Frozen Embryo Transfer(FET)

good quality embryos are stored for possible future attempts to conceive,
a frozen embryo from a previous fresh IVF cycle is thawed and transferred back into a woman’s uterus.
